Every part of your house is very important, and stairs are no different. Although it may seem like stairs are just a way to get to the upstairs, stairs can set the tone for the rest of your house, and are one of the first things that your guests notice when coming through your house.
We build our stairs to your specifications and fit stairs made to your exact measurements and build design preferences. If you are replacing a staircase or installing a new one due to a house conversion/add and extension, we complete the process from the first sketches to the last finishing touches.
What We Make
The benefit of having stairs made for your exact home is that you don’t have to settle for any mass produced items. We have the ability to work with all types of softwood and hardwood to accommodate your needs and budget. Pine and Oak are the most common types of wood, however, we are open to using any wood that you are looking for.
The design of the handrails and balustrades is customized to your preferences, whether it’s with traditional spindles or modern square sections and glass panels. We have extensive design experience, whether it’s making reproductions of Victorian styles for protected heritage buildings to make sure the mouldings match, or making modern floating stairs with minimal visible support.
Your handrails will be tailored to your design, regardless of whether you have definitive plans or want to work it out as you go. We can help clarify your options and the best layout for your design.
Under Stairs Storage
The under stairs space can be difficult to work with. However, this space is not meant to be wasted as we can fit in cupboards and pull out storage. We can easily integrate this storage functionality into the staircase installation so the design and fit is coordinated from the start.
Building Regulations
There’s no experience around the fact that stairs must comply with the UK Building Regulations. Pitch angle, headroom, balustrade height, the spacing on the balustrade; it all has to be right. We ensure that you’re not going to run into issues when you sell it, and even when building control comes, we make sure everything is okay before we ever start cutting timber.
This is especially important if you are converting a loft, as the angles of the stairs are often tighter and you are working with low headroom.
The Process
Once we have all the design and measurements in agreed shape, we build the staircase in our workshop. This way, we don’t have to set up large machinery in your home and create a dusty mess that is going to sit in your hallway for days on end.
In most cases, we can complete the installation in a day, but it can take customers up to two days in cases with more structures. Most of the time, people will organize around it and plan to be out for the working day, but we can also schedule it for the time that is going to cause the least hassle to you.
Renovations and Repairs
Jobs don’t always need a complete replacement. In some cases, we replace worn treads, fix creaking steps, or update spindles and handrails to give old staircases a a fresh look. If your stairs are solid, but they are a bit older, the cost to replace them is not a necessity, as changing the balustrade and refinishing the timber can lead to a significant difference.
For period properties, very often we replicate existing mouldings for the details in the repairs to disperse and blend in with \the original work. Over the years, we have matched a variety of styles, such as Georgian to Edwardian.
Areas Covered
Distance is rarely a problem for staircase projects, as they are large jobs that can justify the travel time.
If you are in Oxford, Banbury, Witney, Bicester, or anywhere in the middle of those locations, we are always ready to come to measure the space. We will review your goals, take good measurements, and provide you with a fair estimate for the work.
